From May – August 2019, I worked at Viasat as a User Experience Visual Design Intern. Working on the UX team in the Marketing Creative department, I had the worked on a variety of projects, including UX/UI designs, blog graphics, wireframes, and prototypes.
I created case studies for the larger projects I did during my internship. Check them out at the links below!
Viasat transitioned to using Slack as their main internal communication platform halfway through my internship. At the beginning of my internship, I customized the UI elements of the Slack interface to differentiate between the two workspaces that Viasat would have (one for business use and one for social use). I customized the colorways of the sidebars, created unique icons for each workspace and created a custom set of Viasat emojis for people to use in Slack.
I created this gif to illustrate how satellite internet works. It was featured on the Viasat corporate blog in an article about how satellite internet works. This piece leverages the Viasat illustration style and was animated in After Effects.
To break down how satellites work, I created this graphic on basic satelite properties. It was featured in an article on Viasat's corporate blog.
As one of our intern events, we had a tshirt design contest to create a new intern shirt. My design captures the beach/surf culture of the company’s headquarters location, Carlsbad, CA.
I created this graphic for a Viasat corporate blog article on the breakdown of the total number of operational satellites that are currently orbiting the earth.
Outside of my duties as an intern, I organized a Women in Technology event at Viasat with a couple other interns. We recognized that there were far fewer women working at Viasat than men and we wanted to create an event to explore topics related to women in the tech field and celebrate the contributions and impact of women at Viasat. We partnered with Viasat's Women in Technology Alliance to plan an event that included lightning talks from interns and full time employees on topics that they were passionate about and a networking lunch for people to make new connections.
To market our event, I proposed creating a banner to be posted on our internal company Wiki site and promotional materials to give out to participants. I designed the Wiki banner and the stickers and buttons for our event. The extra buttons and stickers were passed on to Viasat's Women in Technology Alliance to be used at future events.
